This falls under Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – Fraud: unlawful acquisition of another’s property through deception or abuse of trust.
As these offences are committed online, victims do not interact with perpetrators face-to-face, and transactions are conducted remotely.
Main types of internet fraud:
- -Phishing – Theft of personal data (e.g., login credentials) via fake emails or links requesting authorisation on fraudulent websites. Often disguised as prize announcements or lotteries you never entered.
- -Bank Card Fraud – Occurs when victims disclose their card details (card number, expiry date, CVV code) or fail to promptly block a lost/stolen card.
- -Fake Online Stores – These sites mimic legitimate retailers with attractive prices. Fraudsters contact users posing as store representatives and request partial or full payment upfront.
- -“Easy Money” Scams – Fraudsters ask for a small “investment” in exchange for guaranteed returns.
- Online Begging – Emails or posts that include bank details, allegedly from charities or individuals seeking urgent assistance.
Our advice:
Never share personal data on unfamiliar websites. Avoid making large prepayments in online stores (use cash-on-delivery instead). Do not engage with suspicious platforms or dubious job offers.
If you fall victim to such fraud, you should file a report with the Cyber Police and contact a lawyer to protect your rights and interests.
